This original watercolour by Phillip Dutton-White captures the Ferrari 250 GTO, the car so iconic an Italian court ruled it a genuine work of art in its own right.
This original artwork by Phillip Dutton-White depicts the Ferrari 250 GTO in full racing livery, its unmistakable low, sculpted bodywork rendered in fine detail against a clean, minimal ground that lets the car's famous lines speak for themselves.
Few cars carry the weight of legend quite like the 250 GTO. Only 36 were ever built, between 1962 and 1964, and each one combined genuine racing pedigree with a shape so celebrated that in 2019 a Bologna court took the extraordinary step of officially recognising the 250 GTO as a work of art in its own right, ruling that its design was original, artistic and protected from reproduction, placing it alongside Italy's other great masterpieces. It remains the only car ever to receive that recognition.
That status is backed up by staggering value: individual examples have sold for over $48 million at auction and reportedly for as much as $70 million in private sale, making the 250 GTO the most valuable car in the world. Dutton-White's precise, evocative style captures the essence of what makes the car so revered, not just its beauty, but the racing history and engineering purpose behind every curve.
